DON'T SLEEP ON US!!!

Out of most majors, I've noticed that Mass Communications is one that is slept on. People claim "Y'all don't do nothing, but talk to people and record stuff!" I laugh each time, because it's so much more to this major than talking to people and recording stuff. People fail to realize that the world we live in is based on COMMUNICATIONS. As Communications majors, we make it our business to make sure the world remains informed about just about everything. Being that February is Black History month, and we constantly hear about the same historians each year, I'm dedicating this post to a few moguls in communications that have most certainly paved the way for us Mass Communications majors. Take a look!

Max Robinson - first African American broadcast network news anchor

Belva Davis - first Black female television news reporter

Jack L. Cooper - first Black radio personality

Nat King Cole - first Black television talk show host ("The Nat King Cole Show")

  1. I am so glad you decided to do this on mass communications because your are absolutely right. Mass Communications is way more than just reporting and recording it requires more in depth work too. But I'm really glad you chose some African Americans that people never heard of, because when most people think of the people of Black History they bring up Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Madame CJ Walker, and so forth and so on. But in actuality more people of our culture need to be recognized for what they have done as a whole in their lives.

  2. Thank you for shining light on the Mass Communcations department. Instead of judging the major, people need to realize that without communications, everything else would probably be non-existent. We do more than record and talk to people. We write, produce, edit, direct, manage, etc. Also, great job of highlighting those who have impacted the communications industry.
